It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents’ house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn’t be broken…no matter how hard we tried.I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, through his struggle to keep me innocent, and through infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I’d learn that life isn’t always fair. That no matter how much you achieve, none of it matters if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn’t matter. My older sister saw him next.
When I discovered Ms.Hawkins’ work last year I knew I found an author to watch! After reading this story I know I’ve found a new favorite author! I absolutely loved every emotional second of it! It tore me to shreds and made me feel everything under the sun! I couldn’t get enough of Lake and Manning’s tale. I really enjoyed how it took place in the 90’s! That fact alone already made it unique to me but the story within is what took my breath away.
Ms.Hawkins created a story that pulled on every single one of my heart strings. I’ve never had my heart so beautifully torn apart before like this one did and I am so glad she was the one to make me feel that way with her words. Days later and I’m still trying to find out how to move on from Something in the Way. This is THE biggest book hangover of 2017 for me so far! It left me wanting so much more and i need Book 2 so badly it hurts!!
If you haven’t already One-Clicked, What are waiting for?!?! Buy it Today!! My review cannot do this story justice, you NEED to experience this one for yourself. I know it’ll be sweet torture until I get the next one in my hands but it’ll be worth the wait! I hope you love this novel as much as I did and makes you teary eyed like it did me my fellow book lovers! This is a story that needs to be read. 4.5 Stars all around!! 🙂
Jessica Hawkins grew up between the purple mountains and under the endless sun of Palm Springs, California. She studied international business at Arizona State University and has also lived in Costa Rica and New York City. To her, the most intriguing fiction is forbidden, and that’s what you’ll find in her stories. Currently, she resides wherever her head lands, which is often the unexpected (but warm) keyboard of her trusty MacBook.
DON’T MISS OUT ON ANYTHING JESSICA HAWKINS!
